Career. Company. Results.

You'll go farther, faster with this nationally recognized safety designation! The Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) course is a curriculum-based program that not only sets an excellent foundation for the beginning safety practitioner, but it provides an excellent comprehensive review for safety, health and training professionals.

Learning Objectives
In the COSS class, you will learn how to read and understand the OSHA 1910 and 1926 CFRs. This will help you help your company avoid OSHA citations that cost companies millions of dollars in OSHA non-compliance fines each year. But, more importantly, by learning how to work safely on a job site, you can teach your company how to lower fatalities and near misses. Just by taking the COSS class, we have had companies report back to us that their injury rate has lowered by as much as 67% in one year!

Designation
Upon successfully completing the class, you will obtain the nationally recognized Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) designation.

National Program Recognitions
The certifying body for construction education for colleges, universities and technical/trade schools, American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), has recognized this program. COSS is the only non-degreed program to receive this national endorsement. COSS has also been established as a mandatory course for students in the Construction Management Program at Louisiana State University and students in the Safety & Fire Engineering Technology degree program at the University of Houston.

Program Content
The program consists of 40 hours of hands on, face-to-face learning. Case studies and workshops are used extensively to bring learning objectives into focus. Student presentations, daily quizzes, practical reviews and a comprehensive final exam will allow you to demonstrate your competency.

Prerequisites
COSS has no prerequisites for entering, therefore, in each class, we tend to have a mix of non- experienced, first time safety persons, as well as safety professionals who have been in the safety field for 20+ years. But, we have learned that regardless of the number of years of experience you have in safety, everyone leaves the COSS class with a wealth of knowledge!
