The seriousness of hazards and the risks associated with the use of cranes will be presented from various perspectives.  Content of the current OSHA standard [Subpart CC: Cranes and derricks in construction] will be reviewed with emphasis placed on crane set-up and stability, rigging operations, signal person training, and situational awareness.  The class is specifically aimed at riggers, signal persons, and laborers although responsibilities of operators are discussed.  Discussion topics include:

·        Hazards existing with crane operations and surroundings (people, equipment, environment)

·        Types of cranes

·        Situational Awareness

·        Crane set-up and stability concerns

·        Load chart, boom angle indicator

·        Rigging Equipment and Principles

·        Communication: signal person training
