The continued retirement of large numbers of employees reaching age 65 will have a significant impact on the existing skills gaps in areas such as engineering, plant operations, maintenance skills, and technology. This loss of knowledge and skill is noteworthy, but if an employee decides not to retire, that may also create concerns for the business regarding on the job safety and changes in physical ability. Yet many times the concerns a manager may have are not based on facts, but rather outdated beliefs of the older worker.

This program will cover a wide range of issues related to the aging workforce. We will present ideas on issues as diverse as the knowledge drain that occurs when the experienced employee retires, the stereotypes and prejudices related to the employment of older workers and the safety considerations of aging and ways to benefit from hiring an older worker.

What we will cover:
• Statistics on the aging workforce including myths and facts about aging workers
• Correlation between aging and reduced functional capacities
• Explore how employers are preparing for an increasingly older workforce
• Identify promising practices on recruiting, hiring, retaining, and accommodating older workers
