Occupational safety and health professionals who belong to a professional organization or hold a professional certification or credential understand that conforming to a professional code of ethics is a requirement of being a practicing OSH professional. Following a code of ethics is just one component of ethical work practice. In this session we will examine professional ethics and the challenges faced by OSH professionals, and will present some of the consequences of ethical missteps.

Attendees will:

Gain greater awareness of the importance and benefits of ethical behavior in the OSH profession.

Recognize ethical dilemmas before acting and learn to evaluate options.

Understand how to effectively interface with OSHA and recognize actions that can be considered an obstruction of justice.

This two-hour session satisfies the 2-hour ABIH Ethics requirement.
