This session will cover safe lifting and injury prevention through alternatives to lifting. Discussion will include:
· The back's structure and function: back safety/body mechanics and posture while working
o Forces involved – lever arm principle and basic physics of lifting
o Common causes of back injuries
· Flexibility and warm up/stretching – pros and cons of these programs
· Preparing to lift and the mechanics of safe lifting
· Alternatives to lifting – work process, staging materials, storage and facility design, mechanical assist
